What to expect

During our session you can expect a relaxed and fun atmosphere. I want you to feel at ease and enjoy yourself during our time together.

With families who have small children you can expect to take a break if kids are needing it. Sometimes the best shots are of your child being natural and playing with mom, dad or siblings so you can count on me to keep snapping away. Don’t expect perfect behavior and/or smiles. Kids are not good ‘fake smilers’. Keep the mood light, fun and try not to tell them to smile… make them laugh. Laughs produce precious smiles.

WHAT TO BRING
If you have personal items (hats, a blanket, a favorite toy) that you'd like captured feel free to bring them along. Also, if you think your child(ren) might cooperate better with a snack bring that too!

PREPARING CHILDREN
Stay positive when talking to your children about what to expect at the photo shoot. Assume that they will enjoy themselves and have fun and they most likely will! Treat it as fun family time. Please refrain from “putting your foot down” if your children are not cooperating because as you can expect it will likely yield poor results. The last thing we want is for a child to feel as if he/she is being forced to do something against his/her will. Instead, we can take a break from photos for a few minutes and allow them to play around a bit.

AFTER YOUR SESSION
I like to go through your photos as soon as possible after the session and get a little sneak peek off to you within a day or two. I generally have the rest of the photos ready for viewing within 2 weeks. Some times are busier than others so this can vary. Once your proofs are ready we will make a viewing/ordering appointment for you at my studio. This will give you the opportunity to see the images, choose the images you would like and discuss sizes as well as other products available. I do also offer online viewing for those who cannot make it into the studio.

For payment I accept cash, e-transfers, cheque or credit card. Orders over $1000 are eligible for a payment plan. Orders are typically ready in 2-4 weeks.

WHAT TO WEAR

Take your time to carefully plan your clothing for your session. Avoid matching outfits but coordinate color and style (casual or formal) of clothing that compliment each other. Keep it simple! Too many different colors and patterns can make for a distracting photograph. Around four works well.

I highly recommend avoiding clothing with logos. They are very distracting and they date a photograph rather quickly.

Also, think about what mood are you trying to create. Bright colors tend to be more lively. Neutral colors (beige, white, black, khaki, grey) are more classic. Solid-colored clothing works better than patterns when groups are being photographed together but definitely work in a pattern or two. It's good to match the colors in the pattern to the solids that the others wear.

Layers look fantastic. Think jackets, scarves, knit leggings on girls with skirts, etc. Think of where you will be hanging these photos in your home and what colors you have on the wall and in the room when selecting your wardrobe.

SHOES - Dark-colored shoes or no shoes* are best. Kids shoes can be very distracting with logos etc. Also, match your shoes to your outfit, casual, worn out, every day shoes with well thought out clothing can really take away from the look you are going for.
